This policy explains what data FieldLingo collects, why, and how it's used.
Who we are
FieldLingo is operated by Weirdo.Rocks LLC, 7901 4th St N STE 300, St. Petersburg, Florida 33702, USA ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for the personal data described below. Full legal/registration details: fieldlingo.app/impressum.html.
What we collect
An account, identified either by a random device ID (guest accounts โ no name or email required) or by an email address and password if you register one, or by the email Apple shares with us if you sign in with Apple. If you set one, a display name. Your lesson progress, XP, streak, and review history. If you buy a subscription on the web, Stripe assigns your account a customer ID we store to manage that subscription; if you buy through the App Store or Google Play, RevenueCat tells us your entitlement status (not your payment details). If you enable push notifications, your Expo push token. If you request a password reset, the email address you send the request to (used once, to send the reset link, and logged only in masked form). Every request to our servers necessarily includes your IP address, used for rate-limiting abuse and not stored beyond normal server logs.
What we don't collect
We never ask for your name, and a guest account needs no email or password at all. We don't sell your data to third parties, and we don't show ads.
Who we share data with (processors)
We use other companies to run the parts of the app that need them, under contracts that limit what they can do with your data: Anthropic (Claude โ AI roleplay, tips, memory hooks), Microsoft Azure (Speech Services โ pronunciation scoring and text-to-speech), ElevenLabs (live voice tutor conversations), Google (Translate's text-to-speech as a fallback when Azure is unavailable), Apple and Google (App Store / Play Store purchases), RevenueCat (purchase/entitlement management), Stripe (web payment processing), Resend (password-reset emails), Cloudflare (audio file hosting and infrastructure), PostHog (analytics, only if you opt in), and Sentry (crash reporting). Some of these are based outside your country, including in the United States; where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard for that transfer.
Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK users)
Account creation, lesson sync, and purchases: necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the app). Crash reports without a user identifier: our legitimate interest in keeping the app working. Analytics and Sentry user-identification: your consent, which you give or withhold via the in-app prompt and can change any time in Settings โ Privacy. Billing records: our legal obligation to keep them for tax purposes.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand which features are used and where learners drop off, so we can improve the app. Analytics events are pseudonymised using your random device ID. Analytics is off by default โ we only send events if you opt in, and you can turn it off at any time under Settings โ Privacy โ Analytics.
Crash reporting
We use Sentry to capture error reports when the app crashes, including a stack trace and device type. These reports are anonymous unless you've opted into analytics (see above) โ with that consent, we also attach your account ID so we can investigate a specific report. Without it, reports carry no identifier we can trace back to your account.
Audio recordings
When you use the pronunciation exercise, your voice is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech Services to transcribe it and score how closely it matches the target phrase. The audio is processed in real time and is not stored by us or by Microsoft beyond the duration of the request.
Voice tutor
The live voice tutor streams your microphone audio to ElevenLabs (Conversational AI) and Microsoft Azure to power the real-time conversation. Audio is processed in real time to generate the tutor's replies and is not retained by us beyond the session.
AI conversations
Roleplay and AI tips are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. We do not store conversation history beyond your current session. Anthropic's standard data policies apply.
In-app purchases
Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are processed by Apple or Google and managed by RevenueCat; we receive only a purchase confirmation and entitlement status, never your payment details. Purchases made on the web are processed by Stripe; we receive a customer ID and subscription status, never your card number.
Data retention
Your progress is stored on your device and also synced to our server so you can restore it on a new device and appear on leaderboards. We keep the minimum needed to run these features (streak, XP, review history, purchases) for as long as your account exists, plus a short window in encrypted backups (currently 14 days) kept for disaster recovery. You can delete your account and all associated server data at any time under Settings โ Delete account, or request a copy of everything we hold via Settings โ Export my data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent (for analytics) at any time without affecting processing that already happened. Use the in-app Export/Delete tools for access, portability, and erasure, or email us for anything else. EEA/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection supervisory authority.
Children
FieldLingo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the date below when we do; material changes will also be flagged in-app.
